The importance of photoprotection
The first 18 years of life are the most important years for skin care; it’s been proven that children receive 3 times as much UVB radiation than adults, in fact it’s estimated that children’s exposure to UVB radation is 50% of the exposure received throughout life. For this reason ISDIN has been collaborating for the last 16 years with research centers and pharmaceutical companies across Spain with the Photoprotection School Campaign, the biggest initiative of its kind in this country. Thanks to this campaign, more than 4,5 million children aged 6 to 11 have learned how to enjoy the sun in a responsible way. This campaign is one of many initiatives ISDIN carries out in its social commitment for better skin health.
The campaign aims to continue educating children on the importance of looking after your skin, teaching them about the benefits and the dangers from exposure to the sun’s radiation.
Prevention is encouraged for all ages, but dermatologists are emphasis the dangers for children and teenagers, as they are more susceptible to the effects of UV radiation, they spend more time in the sun and they don’t protect themselves adequately. Education for children at these ages is fundamental for their future and it’s necessary to complement education with health programmes. Spanish pharmaceutical companies collaborate with research laboratories, teachers and educators, and transmit good habits for protecting against the damaging effects of the sun.
First interactive platform for reinforcing suncare for children.
In this edition the campaign is digital thanks to the online platform www.isdinsunlab.com; an educational space which assists pharmacists during the sun-care training sessions which they carry out for students in primary education withint the ISDIN photoprotection School Campaign. In this new website children have discovered the IsdinSunProtectors. These are the sun-care super heroes that the youngest children play with in interactive games, videos and other fun and educational tools. In this way the child receives the sun-care message not only during the Summer and in specific school activities playing a year-long pivotal role in family and social life with respect to learning about photoprotection.
