Admission Criteria for Students in Madrid Public Schools
General Principal
The Spanish Education system gives all students the a right to a school place guaranteeing them a basic education, free of charge for compulsory education starting from the second cycle of infant education (rrom X years of age) , primary education and secondary education. The parents or legal guardians have a right to apply for a place at the centre of their choice.
At no time is racial, sexual, religious, personal or social discrimination entered into the application process.
Educational administrations must:
Regulate the admission process of students to the public and grant maintained (privados concertados) -
Guarantee the right to an education, access in equal conditions and freedom for parents to choose the school. -
Ensure an adecuate and well balanced distribution in schools of students with special needs.
Priority Criteria for Admission
When there is a high demand of places and not enough places to satisfy demand a policy for prioritising admission is enforced and includes the following points:

Siblings already attending the school of choice. -
Proximity of the school to your residence or place of work -
Numerous family (familia numerosa) -
Special needs student or family member…
The points system is as follows:
Nursery, Primary, and Secondary Education
PRIORITY CRITERIA
1. Siblings who attend the school or parent or legal guardians working in the school.
1.1 For the first sibling attending the school or parent or legal guardians working in the school. 4
1.2 For each of the following siblings 3
2. Proximity of the place of residence or of the parents or legal guardians place of work.
2.1 Family home or place of work of one of the parents or legal guardians located within the catchment area of the desired school. 4
2.2 1 Family home or place of work of one of the parents or legal guardians, located in the limit areas of the cathment area of the desired school 2
2.3 Family home or place of work of one of the parents or legal guardians, located in other areas. 0
3. Family Annual Income
3.1 Family income equal or below the minimum interprofessional 2
3.2 Family income in between one and two times the minimum interprofessional salary. 1
3.3 Family income more than double the interprofessional salary 0
4. Special needs (student, sibblings, parents or legal guardians)

CRITERIA OF EQUAL POINT SCORES
Where equal points occur amongst student applications the following criteria is applied in descending order of priority :
a. Most points obtained for sibblings already attending the school or parents or legal guardians working in the school.
b. Most points obtained for the proximity of place of residence.
c. Least annual income per capita in the family unit.
d. Most points obtained for special needs
e. Allocation through Public conducted by the school Board.

PRIORITY CRITERIA
1. Siblings who attend the school or parent or legal guardians working in the school.

1.3 Family incomes superior to double the interprofessional salary. 0
2. Proximity of the place of residence or of the parents or legal guardians place of work
2.1 Family home or student’s, if the student is an adult, or alternatively the place of work of one of the parents or legal guardians, or the student’s if the student is an adult, located within the cathment area of the school. 4
