La adaptaci&amp;oacute;n de ambos animales al Zool&amp;oacute;gico ha sido perfecta y hasta la actualidad no han sufrido ning&amp;uacute;n problema digno de menci&amp;oacute;n dados los cuidados recibidos. Sin embargo y debido a su edad, no ha sido hasta Marzo de este a&amp;ntilde;o cuando Hua Zui Ba comenz&amp;oacute; a mostrar s&amp;iacute;ntomas de celo.&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;br /&gt;A principios del mes de Mayo se observan cambios en el comportamiento de Hua Zui Ba m&amp;aacute;s marcados (asociados al celo), como son aumento del numero de marcajes y vocalizaciones asociadas a celo, posturas con la cola levantado y, por primera vez desde que llego a Madrid , se le observa ba&amp;ntilde;arse. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;img class="imageStyle" alt="INSEMINACIÓN PANDA_11" src="http://kidsinmadrid.com/page22_files/inseminacio0301n-panda_11.png" width="377" height="491"/&gt;&lt;span style="font:14px Trebuchet, Verdana, serif; color:#0E0D3D;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;br /&gt;Se realizaron &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font:14px Trebuchet, Verdana, serif; color:#0E0D3D;"&gt;&lt;u&gt;dos inseminaciones&lt;/u&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font:14px Trebuchet, Verdana, serif; color:#0E0D3D;"&gt; una el &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font:14px Trebuchet, Verdana, serif; color:#0E0D3D;"&gt;&lt;u&gt;13 de Mayo del 2009 &lt;/u&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font:14px Trebuchet, Verdana, serif; color:#0E0D3D;"&gt;y la segunda el &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font:14px Trebuchet, Verdana, serif; color:#0E0D3D;"&gt;&lt;u&gt;14 de Mayo&lt;/u&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font:14px Trebuchet, Verdana, serif; color:#0E0D3D;"&gt;. Ambas Inseminaciones fueron llevadas a cabo por personal t&amp;eacute;cnico del Zoo de Madrid,&amp;nbsp; de la Base de Cr&amp;iacute;a de Panda Gigante de Chengdu&amp;nbsp;junto con el Grupo de Ecolog&amp;iacute;a y Biolog&amp;iacute;a Reproductiva de Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales (CSIC). Previa a la inseminaci&amp;oacute;n de la hembra, se anestesi&amp;oacute; al macho para proceder a la extracci&amp;oacute;n de semen mediante electroestimulaci&amp;oacute;n. &lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;br /&gt;Desde entonces, se est&amp;aacute; estudiando de manera exhaustiva el comportamiento de la hembra y las hormonas de gestaci&amp;oacute;n (progesterona), as&amp;iacute; extremando los cuidados proporcionados a la hembra en previsi&amp;oacute;n su posible gestaci&amp;oacute;n.&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;br /&gt;Debido a la fisiolog&amp;iacute;a reproductiva de los Pandas Gigantes, se&amp;nbsp; hace muy dif&amp;iacute;cil el diagn&amp;oacute;stico de la gestaci&amp;oacute;n. Son mam&amp;iacute;feros con gestaci&amp;oacute;n con implantaci&amp;oacute;n retardada del feto, lo que nos da un periodo de gestaci&amp;oacute;n muy variable de 79 d&amp;iacute;as a 325 d&amp;iacute;as, y hace que los perfiles hormonales y comportamentales de la hembra durante la gestaci&amp;oacute;n sean muy variables y no fiables en la mayor&amp;iacute;a de los casos.&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;img class="imageStyle" alt="INSEMINACIÓN PANDA_22" src="http://kidsinmadrid.com/page22_files/inseminacio0301n-panda_22.png" width="377" height="282"/&gt;&lt;span style="font:14px Trebuchet, Verdana, serif; color:#0E0D3D;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Por todo esto, los esfuerzos del personal del Zoo de Madrid est&amp;aacute;n enfocados en mantener una vigilancia constante sobre Hua Zui Ba ante su &amp;nbsp;&amp;ldquo;posible&amp;rdquo; gestaci&amp;oacute;n y estar preparados para un pr&amp;oacute;ximo parto en el caso de que este se produjera.&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;br /&gt;El Zoo Aquarium de Madrid ya conoce el &amp;eacute;xito de este tipo de intervenciones. En el&amp;nbsp; 1984, fruto de una inseminaci&amp;oacute;n similar naci&amp;oacute; Chu Lin (la primera inseminaci&amp;oacute;n exitosa fuera de China) y precisamente este a&amp;ntilde;o, ha nacido en el zool&amp;oacute;gico madrile&amp;ntilde;o el tercer rinoceronte del mundo gestado tras una inseminaci&amp;oacute;n.&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;br /&gt;ENGLISH&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="text-align:left;"&gt;&lt;span style="font:14px Trebuchet, Verdana, serif; color:#0E0D3D;"&gt;This past spring, the Giant Panda Hua Zui Ba came on heat for the first time in its life. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Since the arrival of the pair of giant pandas at Madrid Zoo in September 2009, Bing Xingy Hua Zui Ba, from the Base of the Giant Panda Breeding in Chengdu (Sichuan, China), the reproduction of this couple has been a priority for staff at the Madrid Zoo as well as the team of specialists from the prestigious Chinese breeding center in Chengdu. The adaptation of both animals to the zoo and has been seamless with no problems in the care they are receiving.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Early in the month of May changes were observed  in the behaviour of Hua Zui Ba (associated with the heat), posture with the tail lifted and, for the first time since his arrival in Madrid, he was seen swimming. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Two inseminations were performed, one on May 13 2009 and the second on May 14. Los premios incluian libros, CDs, talleres gratis, ropa de ni&amp;ntilde;os, un Kangaroo gigante, entradas para ver "El Carnaval de los animales"&lt;br /&gt;concierto, paquetes bilingues, una fiesta de cumplea&amp;ntilde;os, vouchers para libros,vouchers con descuento , mu&amp;ntilde;ecas hechas a mano, cesta llenas de cosas buenas donados por los exihibitores de comidas y mucho m&amp;aacute;s.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Marilin La&amp;ntilde;ez, la ya muy conocida presentadora de Vaugham "Magic Hour" fu&amp;eacute; la anfitriona de la feria&amp;nbsp; todo el d&amp;iacute;a introduciendo los&amp;nbsp; espect&amp;aacute;culos y anunciando los ganadores&amp;nbsp; de de la rifa y los premios. The variety and creativity received has been surprising and delightful. Tampoco hay soluciones que valgan para todos en este campo. Las familias que han conseguido criar a sus hijos en dos idiomas lo han hecho de formas tan diversas que s&amp;oacute;lo cabe pensar que no existe un &amp;uacute;nico modelo &amp;uacute;til.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;iquest;Qu&amp;eacute; deber&amp;iacute;an saber los padres que se plantean crear una familia biling&amp;uuml;e?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Lo primero y m&amp;aacute;s importante es que el biling&amp;uuml;ismo NO es una cuesti&amp;oacute;n de TODO O NADA. Muchos ling&amp;uuml;istas considerar&amp;iacute;an biling&amp;uuml;e a un ni&amp;ntilde;o que comprende a la perfecci&amp;oacute;n el idioma que le habla su padre o su madre y sin embargo lo habla s&amp;oacute;lo a un nivel muy b&amp;aacute;sico. La oportunidad que ha supuesto para &amp;eacute;l estar expuesto a los sonidos de la lengua le permitir&amp;aacute; hablarla sin acento, el conocimiento pasivo le ofrecer&amp;aacute; capacidades potenciales que una vez expuesto a la necesidad de usarla permitir&amp;aacute;n que llegue a dominar el idioma de un modo que alguien que no ha gozado de este privilegio no podr&amp;iacute;a ni so&amp;ntilde;ar.&lt;br /&gt;Nuestra obligaci&amp;oacute;n como padres no consiste en que nuestro hijo termine siendo biling&amp;uuml;e y con qu&amp;eacute; grado de equilibrio y dominio de cada lengua; nuestra obligaci&amp;oacute;n es &amp;ldquo;solamente&amp;rdquo; ofrecerle oportunidades de aprenderlas. El &amp;eacute;xito depender&amp;aacute; de variables que no podemos controlar; relacionadas con las aptitudes ling&amp;uuml;&amp;iacute;sticas de nuestro hijo, con su motivaci&amp;oacute;n, con las dificultades reales de exposici&amp;oacute;n al idioma&amp;hellip;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;iquest;C&amp;oacute;mo &amp;ldquo;dise&amp;ntilde;ar&amp;rdquo; un buen sistema de comunicaci&amp;oacute;n dentro de la familia?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Las decisiones de qui&amp;eacute;n habla qu&amp;eacute; lengua son muy importantes para el buen desarrollo del proyecto.&lt;br /&gt;Es fundamental ser realistas y tomarlas en funci&amp;oacute;n de dos tipos de criterios:&lt;br /&gt;-pr&amp;aacute;cticos (cu&amp;aacute;nto tiempo pasa cada padre con el ni&amp;ntilde;o, si entienden ambos padres las dos lenguas, en qu&amp;eacute; pa&amp;iacute;s se va a vivir, por cu&amp;aacute;nto tiempo, qu&amp;eacute; posibilidades hay de escolarizar al ni&amp;ntilde;o en alguno de los idiomas que queremos que desarrolle&amp;hellip;)&lt;br /&gt;-emocionales (en qu&amp;eacute; idioma se comunica la pareja entre s&amp;iacute; y si ser&amp;iacute;an capaces de cambiarlo, en qu&amp;eacute; idioma nos encontramos m&amp;aacute;s c&amp;oacute;modos para cantar, re&amp;ntilde;ir, consolar&amp;hellip; a nuestro hijo)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Algunos de los aspectos que habr&amp;aacute; que decidir son:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;-Idioma que habla cada padre al ni&amp;ntilde;o dentro de casa&lt;br /&gt;-Idioma que hablan ambos padres entre s&amp;iacute;&lt;br /&gt;-Idioma que hablan los padres al ni&amp;ntilde;o en presencia de terceros (cuando hay visitas)&lt;br /&gt;El sistema debe ser coherente y consistente porque de ello depende la facilidad con la que el ni&amp;ntilde;o &amp;ldquo;separar&amp;aacute;&amp;rdquo; (diferenciar&amp;aacute;) ambas lenguas.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;iquest;C&amp;oacute;mo es un hogar biling&amp;uuml;e standard en Espa&amp;ntilde;a y qu&amp;eacute; dificultades plantea?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Muchas de las familias en Espa&amp;ntilde;a que intentan este objetivo, lo hacen por una poderosa raz&amp;oacute;n: son matrimonios mixtos, en los que existen dos or&amp;iacute;genes culturales distintos y dos idiomas distintos (un/-a espa&amp;ntilde;ol/-a emparejado con alguien de otro pa&amp;iacute;s).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;En este caso, a la hora de dise&amp;ntilde;ar el sistema de comunicaci&amp;oacute;n habr&amp;aacute; que tener en cuenta dos aspectos fundamentales:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;-Cu&amp;aacute;l es el idioma minoritario y qu&amp;eacute; facilidad/dificultad para exponer al ni&amp;ntilde;o a esta lengua vamos a encontrar en Espa&amp;ntilde;a. No es lo mismo que se trate del ingl&amp;eacute;s o del flamenco.&lt;br /&gt;-Qu&amp;eacute; grado de dominio del 2&amp;ordm; idioma tiene el miembro espa&amp;ntilde;ol de la pareja. Las cosas, en general, ser&amp;aacute;n m&amp;aacute;s f&amp;aacute;ciles cuanto mayor sea (aunque ha habido personas que lo han conseguido de todas formas). &lt;br /&gt;Lo que s&amp;iacute; que est&amp;aacute; claro en estos casos es que es recomendable la exposici&amp;oacute;n precoz y simult&amp;aacute;nea a ambos idiomas: hablarle al beb&amp;eacute; desde su nacimiento en las dos lenguas.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tenemos infinitas posibilidades, pero las podemos resumir en dos modelos:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;OPOL (one parent, one language):&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;El padre espa&amp;ntilde;ol le habla en espa&amp;ntilde;ol y el padre extranjero le habla en su idioma.&lt;br /&gt;Especialmente &amp;uacute;til si el padre que habla el idioma no comunitario va a pasar mucho tiempo con el beb&amp;eacute; o con el ni&amp;ntilde;o, porque trabaja en casa o porque tiene el mejor horario&amp;hellip;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;Eacute;sta tambi&amp;eacute;n puede ser la mejor opci&amp;oacute;n, si el padre espa&amp;ntilde;ol no tiene un buen nivel de la lengua nativa de su pareja.&lt;br /&gt;En este modelo, el ni&amp;ntilde;o puede estar expuesto o no al di&amp;aacute;logo entre sus padres en el idioma minoritario (lo m&amp;aacute;s frecuente es que las parejas que han escogido este sistema hablen entre ellos espa&amp;ntilde;ol, pero no en todos los casos es as&amp;iacute;), pero lo cierto es que siempre tendr&amp;aacute; una menor exposici&amp;oacute;n al idioma no comunitario que si en casa todos lo hablasen. Por este motivo, ser&amp;aacute; muy importante (sobre todo a partir de la escolarizaci&amp;oacute;n) buscarle otros entornos en los que practicarlo. De otro modo, es muy habitual que el ni&amp;ntilde;o desarrolle un lenguaje activo m&amp;aacute;s d&amp;eacute;bil que su repertorio pasivo o que incluso en alg&amp;uacute;n momento se niegue temporalmente a hablarlo.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;OHOL (one home, one language):&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Para reforzar el idioma minoritario, ambos padres lo usan dentro de casa para dirigirse al ni&amp;ntilde;o y para hablar entre s&amp;iacute;.&lt;br /&gt;La preocupaci&amp;oacute;n aqu&amp;iacute; suele ser &amp;ldquo;&amp;iquest;qu&amp;eacute; ocurrir&amp;aacute; cuando el ni&amp;ntilde;o se escolarice en un idioma que no usamos en casa?&amp;rdquo;. Se trata de una preocupaci&amp;oacute;n comprensible pero que se disuelve enseguida por s&amp;iacute; misma. La escolarizaci&amp;oacute;n es un est&amp;iacute;mulo ling&amp;uuml;&amp;iacute;stico tan potente que a la edad en que se suele iniciar (3 a&amp;ntilde;os) la inmersi&amp;oacute;n da lugar a un desarrollo vertiginoso de la lengua. &lt;br /&gt;Esta opci&amp;oacute;n puede ser especialmente &amp;uacute;til si la lengua no comunitaria es infrecuente en el pa&amp;iacute;s y las posibilidades de reforzar su desarrollo a trav&amp;eacute;s de la escolarizaci&amp;oacute;n, actividades extraescolares, material did&amp;aacute;ctico y de juego&amp;hellip; es muy reducida.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;iquest;Algunos consejos &amp;uacute;tiles para padres que educan a sus hijos en dos idiomas?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Es dif&amp;iacute;cil dar consejos generales, que no est&amp;eacute;n dise&amp;ntilde;ados para las particularidades de cada familia, pero hay algunas tem&amp;aacute;ticas comunes que pueden resultar &amp;uacute;tiles:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;bull;	Asociaci&amp;oacute;n entre idioma y emoci&amp;oacute;n: &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;En este sentido hay algunos consejos pr&amp;aacute;cticos que refuerzan la idea de que si asociamos un aprendizaje a emociones negativas, &amp;eacute;ste quedar&amp;aacute; irremediablemente da&amp;ntilde;ado. As&amp;iacute; que, en general:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;-No cambiar de idioma para re&amp;ntilde;ir&lt;br /&gt;-Cuidado con las correcciones en las que el ni&amp;ntilde;o se vea interrumpido, avergonzado, re&amp;ntilde;ido de modo desproporcionado&amp;hellip; Es preferible utilizar la reformulaci&amp;oacute;n (repetir en una frase en la que le aclaramos al ni&amp;ntilde;o que le hemos comprendido, la palabra o construcci&amp;oacute;n que acaba de utilizar de forma incorrecta) o la ejemplificaci&amp;oacute;n (introducimos en ese momento o m&amp;aacute;s adelante en la conversaci&amp;oacute;n un ejemplo distinto en el que se use correctamente la expresi&amp;oacute;n).&lt;br /&gt;-Cuantas m&amp;aacute;s actividades que el ni&amp;ntilde;o disfruta se hagan en un idioma, m&amp;aacute;s asociaciones emocionales positivas establecer&amp;aacute;.&lt;br /&gt;-Proteger al ni&amp;ntilde;o de las demandas de que muestre sus habilidades hablando en un idioma. Estas situaciones no implican necesidad comunicativa y exponen al ni&amp;ntilde;o a valoraciones exhibicionistas que pueden causarle timidez o miedo.&lt;br /&gt;-No forzar a los hermanos a hablar entre s&amp;iacute; uno u otro idioma. La comunicaci&amp;oacute;n entre ellos no debe estar constre&amp;ntilde;ida por factores ajenos.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;bull;	Modos de reforzar el idioma m&amp;aacute;s d&amp;eacute;bil: adaptados a la edad&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;-En general los libros biling&amp;uuml;es tanto en la edad prelectora como despu&amp;eacute;s son una herramienta muy &amp;uacute;til. Es recomendable que el pap&amp;aacute; lea el cuento en un idioma y la mam&amp;aacute; (u otra persona de la familia) en el otro de modo que el ni&amp;ntilde;o asocie las im&amp;aacute;genes y la historia con el vocabulario y la gram&amp;aacute;tica de ambos.&lt;br /&gt;-Los juegos pueden ser muy estimulantes a partir de cierta edad (&amp;iexcl;adem&amp;aacute;s de una oportunidad de pasar un rato divertido en familia!). Algunos juegos requieren m&amp;aacute;s comunicaci&amp;oacute;n y son m&amp;aacute;s &amp;uacute;tiles para nuestro prop&amp;oacute;sito: el veo-veo, en busca del tesoro (escribir pistas en papelitos que se encadenan entre s&amp;iacute; para encontrar el tesoro), el ahorcado, el Scrabble, el qui&amp;eacute;n es qui&amp;eacute;n&amp;hellip;&lt;br /&gt;-Desarrollar la relaci&amp;oacute;n de los padres con la comunidad de origen es importante porque otros matrimonios con hijos pueden ofrecer una oportunidad &amp;uacute;nica de compartir experiencias y de hacer cosas juntos en el idioma minoritario.&lt;br /&gt;-Cuantos m&amp;aacute;s entornos del ni&amp;ntilde;o se desarrollen en el idioma que queremos reforzar, m&amp;aacute;s oportunidad de desarrollo: actividades extraescolares, grupos de juego, escolarizaci&amp;oacute;n&amp;hellip;&lt;br /&gt;-La relaci&amp;oacute;n con la familia de origen que vive fuera (abuelos, primos&amp;hellip;) es la ocasi&amp;oacute;n m&amp;aacute;s natural de mejorar la lengua. Las vacaciones y visitas de familiares pueden ser muy &amp;uacute;tiles cuando se ha observado un retroceso en el dominio del idioma.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;bull;	Las dificultades del lenguaje no tienen por qu&amp;eacute; deberse al biling&amp;uuml;ismo. Si aparece alguna anomal&amp;iacute;a, consultar.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Hay muy pocos profesionales del &amp;aacute;mbito de la logopedia y de la psicolog&amp;iacute;a que tengan conocimientos sobre biling&amp;uuml;ismo. Corremos por esto dos riesgos fundamentales:&lt;br /&gt;-Que atribuyan el problema al biling&amp;uuml;ismo y no tenga nada que ver&lt;br /&gt;-Que no pasen por alto la influencia del biling&amp;uuml;ismo en el desarrollo del lenguaje a distintas edades y den por patol&amp;oacute;gicas caracter&amp;iacute;sticas normales del desarrollo biling&amp;uuml;e&lt;br /&gt;Ante las dudas que puedan surgir con respecto a las dificultades de nuestros hijos en el &amp;aacute;rea del lenguaje, siempre ser&amp;aacute; mejor consultar. For this reason, it&amp;rsquo;s very important (especially when they start school) to find them activities and places where they can practice the language. If not, it&amp;rsquo;s likely that the child will develop an active language which is weaker than his passive repertoire and he may even refuse to speak the language temporarily.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;OHOL (one home, one language):&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;To increase the minority language both parents should use it at home to talk to each other and to their child. &lt;br /&gt;The concern here usually seems to be what will happen when the child goes to school in a language that we don&amp;rsquo;t use at home? It&amp;rsquo;s an understandable concern which disappears and resolves itself soon after. Schooling provides such a strong linguistic stimulus that at the age in which children normally start (3 years old) immersion leads to a rapid development of the language. &lt;br /&gt;This option can be especially useful if the minority language isn&amp;rsquo;t common in the resident country and the possibility of encouraging its development through school, after-school activities, educational material, games . . .  is very limited. &lt;br /&gt;Some useful advice for parents who are raising their children with two languages?&lt;br /&gt;It&amp;rsquo;s difficult to give advice which isn&amp;rsquo;t designed for each and every particularity of each family, but advice can be offered in some common areas:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;bull;	&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font:14px Trebuchet, Verdana, serif; font-weight:bold; font-weight:bold; "&gt;Association between language and emotion:&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font:14px Trebuchet, Verdana, serif; "&gt;&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt;There is evidence to suggest that an association between learning and negative emotions can do irreversible damage.  &lt;br /&gt;Therefore, as a general guide:&lt;br /&gt;-Don&amp;rsquo;t change languages when disciplining your child.&lt;br /&gt;-Avoid interrupting your child to correct them (this leads to embarrassment), and try not to overreact by reprimanding them&amp;hellip; It&amp;rsquo;s more effective to rephrase what they&amp;rsquo;ve said (use the word, saying, or grammatical construction that they&amp;rsquo;ve just used incorrectly by repeating the sentence correctly showing that we&amp;rsquo;ve understood what they have said,) or use examples (use the expression or word correctly later in the course of a conversation).&lt;br /&gt;-The more activities that the child enjoys in the said language, the more positive emotions will be established and associated with that language.&lt;br /&gt;-Protect children from demands to show off their language skills. These situations have no communication value and unnecessarily put the child on the spot and under pressure which can lead to shyness and fear.&lt;br /&gt;-Don&amp;rsquo;t force siblings to speak to each other in one or the other language.  Communication between them shouldn&amp;rsquo;t be limited by outside factors&lt;br /&gt;Ways to encourage and strengthen the weaker language (adapt to age of child): &lt;br /&gt;-In general, reading books in the two languages, both in the pre and post reading age, are a very useful tool. It&amp;rsquo;s preferable that the Dad reads books in one language and the Mother, or other member of the family, reads in the other language so that the child associates the images and story with vocabulary and grammar in both languages.&lt;br /&gt;- Games can be very stimulating from a certain age (as well as being a nice way to have some fun as a family). Some games require more communication and are more useful for language learning: I spy, Treasure Hunt (write clues on pieces of paper &amp;ndash; each clue leads to the next, finally leading to the hidden treasure), Hangman, Scrabble, Charades&amp;hellip;&lt;br /&gt;-Parents developing a relationship with the community where the minority language is spoken is important because other couples with children can offer a great and unique opportunity for sharing experiences and for doing things together in that language. &lt;br /&gt;-The more you expose the child to the language that you want them to develop the better: after-school activities, playgroups, schooling&amp;hellip;&lt;br /&gt;- Nurturing your child&amp;rsquo;s relationship with the extended family (grandparents, cousins&amp;hellip;) is the perfect opportunity to improve the language. Holidays and visits can be useful when the language learning process has slowed down or gone into retreat.&lt;br /&gt;Difficulties experienced in language acquisition or usage may not be due to bilingualism. If there is any abnormality, consult with a specialist.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There are very few speech therapists or psychologists that specialise in bilingualism. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font:14px Trebuchet, Verdana, serif; font-weight:bold; font-weight:bold; "&gt;This creates two important risks:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font:14px Trebuchet, Verdana, serif; "&gt;&lt;br /&gt;-The belief that a real speech impairment is attributable to bilingualism &lt;br /&gt;-Forgetting to take into consideration that bilingualism can influence language development at certain stages, and assuming that there is some type of impairment when it&amp;rsquo;s really just a normal part of the process of becoming bilingual. &lt;br /&gt;It&amp;rsquo;s always best to consult with a specialist if you have any doubts with respect to difficulties that your child may have with language acquisition. If there&amp;rsquo;s nothing to worry about, the speech therapist will be able to determine this and give you peace of mind. At the time I bought the book just because I thought it would look good on my kitchen shelf. It stayed on my shelf gathering dust for a few years until one day out I took it down off the shelf, blew away the dust and decided to give one of the recipes a shot. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I never looked backed and if you try this at home, neither will you. Please do leave me your comments if you try it out. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is a dense, chewy brownie layer topped with a creamy cheese mixture and lots of pecan halves (walnuts will do). The subtle tang of the cheese cuts the richness of the chocolate and the pecans add a nutty crunch. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You will need:&lt;br /&gt;CHOCOLATE LAYER:&lt;br /&gt;6 ounces (175 gr) of semisweet chocolate, coarsely chopped&lt;br /&gt;3 ounces (85 gr) unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped&lt;br /&gt;1 cup (240ml) of all purpose flour&lt;br /&gt;1/4 teaspoon of salt&lt;br /&gt;1 cup (240gr) of unsalted butter, softened&lt;br /&gt;1 1/2 cup (360gr) of granulated sugar&lt;br /&gt;3 large eggs&lt;br /&gt;1 teaspoon of vanilla extract&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;CHEESECAKE LAYER:&lt;br /&gt;1 pound (450gr) of cream cheese (Philadelphia) softened&lt;br /&gt;1/3 cup (80gr) granulated sugar&lt;br /&gt;1 large egg&lt;br /&gt;1 tablespoon of heavy cream&lt;br /&gt;1 teaspoon of vanilla extract&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;GARNISH&lt;br /&gt;Pecans or walnuts (around 1/2 a cup)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1. Preheat the oven to 150&amp;ordm;C or 300&amp;ordm;F. Line a 9 inch by 13 inch baking pan with foil, so that the foil extends 2 inches beyond the two short ends of the pan. Lightly butter the bottom and sides of the foil-lined pan.&lt;br /&gt;2. &lt;strong&gt;To make the chocolate layer,&lt;/strong&gt; place the semi sweet and unsweetened chocolate in the tope of a double boiler over barely simmering water. Heat, stirring occasionally until the chocolate melts. Let cool for around 10 mins, or until tepid. &lt;br /&gt;3. In a small bowl, stir together the flour and salt with a whisk&lt;br /&gt;4. In an electric mixer, using the paddle attachment or beaters, beat together the butter and sugar on medium speed for about 1 minute, or until combined. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition and scraping down the sides of teh bowl as necessary. Beat in the melted chocolate and vanilla. On low speed, beat in the flour mixutre until blended. Scrape into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a rubber spatula. Place the pan on a flat surface in the freezer for 15 minutes. &lt;br /&gt;5.&lt;strong&gt; To make the cheesecake layer, &lt;/strong&gt;in an electric mixer, using the paddle attachment or beaters, beat together the cream cheese and sugar on medium speed until smooth, about 1 minute. Beat in the egg, cream, and vanilla until smooth. Scrape down the sides of the bowl and beat for another 30 seconds. Scrape the cheese mixture over the chilled chocolate layer and spread into an even layer. Sprinkle the pecans over the cheese layer.&lt;br /&gt;6. Bake the bars for 70 to 75 mins or until a toothpick inserted into the centre comes out with a few moist crumbs clinging to it. Do NOT over-bake. Place the pan on a wire rack and cool completely. Using the two ends of the foil as handles, lift the brownies out of the pan. Invert onto a cutting surface and peel off the foil. Reinvert and cut into 3 inch squares. Serve at room temperature. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. De estas, 7,000 son ni&amp;ntilde;os menores de seis anos. Hoy en d&amp;iacute;a, Nerea lleva un aud&amp;iacute;fono en el o&amp;iacute;do derecho y un implante coclear en el izquierdo. Tena, que tambi&amp;eacute;n ha participado en talleres para padres como ella en la cl&amp;iacute;nica norteamericana John Tracy de Los Angeles, sabe que su hija tendr&amp;aacute; una vida normal. Salty!,&amp;rdquo; says English teacher Jill Stribling, who moments before led the children t through a song routine as they followed the lyrics&amp;rsquo; commands to move in a circle.&lt;br /&gt;To the outsider, it is an imaginative lesson on the senses as approving parents look on, part of the backdrop of learn-English-now ads and language centers in a country that has recently placed a premium on bilingualism.&amp;nbsp; .&lt;br /&gt;But far more than the five senses in English has mothers like Myriam Tena nodding in approval: her daughter, Nerea, is one of several children in the class who were born deaf.&lt;br /&gt;A decade ago in Spain, four-year-old Nerea, who has severe hearing loss in both ears, might have been relegated to a school for the deaf and confined to sign language. But the wider availability of cochlear implants, digital hearing aids and noise-reducing FM systems puts Nerea squarely in the 21&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font:14px Trebuchet, Verdana, serif; color:#0E0D3D;"&gt;st&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font:14px Trebuchet, Verdana, serif; color:#0E0D3D;"&gt; century. Her parents expect her to have the same opportunities as any of the hearing children in the class.&lt;br /&gt;To drive the point home, Dale Sindell, who provides information and support for the hard-of-hearing through her website, t-oigo.com; Jill Stribling, founder of English for Fun and Paloma Irving, of kidsinmadrid.com are collaborating on a pilot program for children that brings together the hearing and the deaf to learn English.&lt;br /&gt;&amp;ldquo;It&amp;rsquo;s to show the world that deaf children can learn just like the boy or girl next door,&amp;rdquo; said Irving.&lt;br /&gt;Friday&amp;rsquo;s class at Mathnasium, an after-school learning center on Avenida Bruselas, was the second of several integrated workshops planned.&lt;br /&gt;&amp;ldquo;People see a child with glasses and know he has the same possibilities as other children,&amp;rdquo; said Sindell.&amp;nbsp; &amp;ldquo;But when they see a child with a hearing aid they don&amp;rsquo;t know what it is.&amp;rdquo;&lt;br /&gt;Sindell, who is profoundly deaf, never let the condition derail her own plans. She has worked as a corporate headhunter and director of marketing for Citigroup. After the youngest of her three children was diagnosed with severe hearing loss, she began advocating for the deaf and working to fill an informational void.&lt;br /&gt;In Spain, one million people have varying degrees of deafness, according to the State Confederation of Deaf People. Of those, 7,000 are children under six. Roughly 6,000 people in Spain have cochlear implants, according to the Association of People with Cochlear Implants in Spain.&lt;br /&gt;Costs are prohibitive. Implants can run up to 30,000 euros, said Sindell. The public health system will pay for it, but not for the speech therapy a child will need afterwards. A first-generation, digital hearing aid can cost around 2,500 euros, though the government provides qualifying recipients with just 700 euros every four years for the devices.&lt;br /&gt;Some say little is understood about deafness in Spain.&lt;br /&gt;&amp;ldquo;There is a lot of ignorance out there,&amp;rdquo; said speech therapist Fernanda Hinojosa, who attended Friday&amp;rsquo;s class. &amp;ldquo;People in Spain still associate the deaf with sign language.&amp;rdquo;&lt;br /&gt;Myriam Tena decided to confront the misconceptions head on. She enrolled her child in a mainstream public school and is working with the school administration on Nerea&amp;rsquo;s needs in the classroom.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;div class="image-right"&gt;&lt;a href='http://kidsinmadrid.com/page22_files/BIGjill.jpg' rel='zoom' title='jill'&gt;&lt;img  alt='jill' class='imageStyle' src="http://kidsinmadrid.com/page22_files/jill.png" width="350" height="233"/&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;span style="font:14px Trebuchet, Verdana, serif; color:#0E0D3D;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But Tena says the initial shock of her child&amp;rsquo;s diagnosis was hard to bear. It came when Nerea was just four months old.&lt;br /&gt;&amp;ldquo;Whenever our Belgian Sheepdog barked, my husband and I jumped, but Nerea wouldn&amp;rsquo;t react. There were also slammed doors, other loud noises. We knew something was wrong,&amp;rdquo; she said.&lt;br /&gt;Then came the test results.&lt;br /&gt;&amp;ldquo;It&amp;rsquo;s devastating,&amp;rdquo; Tena said. &amp;ldquo;When you&amp;rsquo;re pregnant, you imagine the journey you&amp;rsquo;ll have with your child. Then you land someplace else. Everything looked bleak.&amp;rdquo;&lt;br /&gt;Working with speech therapists, meeting parents like herself and learning about deafness in the in the 21&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font:14px Trebuchet, Verdana, serif; color:#0E0D3D;"&gt;st&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font:14px Trebuchet, Verdana, serif; color:#0E0D3D;"&gt; century vanquished Tena&amp;rsquo;s fears. Today, Nerea has a hearing aid in her right ear and a cochlear implant in her left ear. Tena, who has also attended workshops for parents of deaf children at John Tracy Clinic in Los Angeles, expects her child will have a normal life. That includes speaking at least two languages and competing in a global economy.&lt;br /&gt;After Friday&amp;rsquo;s class, Nerea drew and played with Daniela, one of the hearing children who attended. At one point she clutched a plastic microphone, but decided to save her speech for another day.&lt;br /&gt;&amp;ldquo;Things have changed dramatically for the deaf. At the time I bought the book just because I thought it would look good on my kitchen shelf. It stayed on my shelf gathering dust for a few years until one day out I took it down off the shelf, blew away the dust and decided to give one of the recipes a shot. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I never looked backed and if you try this at home, neither will you. Please do leave me your comments if you try it out. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is a dense, chewy brownie layer topped with a creamy cheese mixture and lots of pecan halves (walnuts will do). The subtle tang of the cheese cuts the richness of the chocolate and the pecans add a nutty crunch. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You will need:&lt;br /&gt;CHOCOLATE LAYER:&lt;br /&gt;6 ounces (175 gr) of semisweet chocolate, coarsely chopped&lt;br /&gt;3 ounces (85 gr) unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped&lt;br /&gt;1 cup (240ml) of all purpose flour&lt;br /&gt;1/4 teaspoon of salt&lt;br /&gt;1 cup (240gr) of unsalted butter, softened&lt;br /&gt;1 1/2 cup (360gr) of granulated sugar&lt;br /&gt;3 large eggs&lt;br /&gt;1 teaspoon of vanilla extract&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;CHEESECAKE LAYER:&lt;br /&gt;1 pound (450gr) of cream cheese (Philadelphia) softened&lt;br /&gt;1/3 cup (80gr) granulated sugar&lt;br /&gt;1 large egg&lt;br /&gt;1 tablespoon of heavy cream&lt;br /&gt;1 teaspoon of vanilla extract&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;GARNISH&lt;br /&gt;Pecans or walnuts (around 1/2 a cup)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1. Preheat the oven to 150&amp;ordm;C or 300&amp;ordm;F. Line a 9 inch by 13 inch baking pan with foil, so that the foil extends 2 inches beyond the two short ends of the pan. Lightly butter the bottom and sides of the foil-lined pan.&lt;br /&gt;2. &lt;strong&gt;To make the chocolate layer,&lt;/strong&gt; place the semi sweet and unsweetened chocolate in the tope of a double boiler over barely simmering water. Heat, stirring occasionally until the chocolate melts. Let cool for around 10 mins, or until tepid. &lt;br /&gt;3. In a small bowl, stir together the flour and salt with a whisk&lt;br /&gt;4. In an electric mixer, using the paddle attachment or beaters, beat together the butter and sugar on medium speed for about 1 minute, or until combined. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, beating well afte
